Output
Browser-verified output: PNG is the standards-defined fallback. JPG, WebP or AVIF appears only after this browser proves it can encode that exact MIME type instead of silently returning a mislabeled PNG.
Private by design: this generator runs entirely in your browser - your text is never sent to Novaverb or any server.

Turn output into a monitored workflow

A Novaverb workspace crawls your live site, verifies these tags and files are actually served, tracks changes over time, and turns findings into assigned work.

Image Converter

What is an image converter?

An image converter changes a picture from one file format to another. Novaverb converts up to 20 browser-supported JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, ICO, HEIC or TIFF files into JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF when this browser can genuinely encode it. Conversion happens locally: the selected images are not uploaded to Novaverb.

Convert images in four steps

The available output buttons reflect this browser's real encoding support.

Add images

Drop or select as many as 20 supported files. Each file must be 50 MB or smaller and the complete batch must remain at or below 250 MB.

Choose the output

Select JPG, PNG, WebP or the AVIF option when it appears. Hidden formats failed an actual in-browser encoding probe.

Set quality or width

Quality affects lossy output such as JPG and WebP. Max width can reduce oversized images without enlarging smaller originals.

Convert and verify

Review the new extension, size and preview, then download one result or the complete batch. Keep originals until the output is approved.

Which image format should you choose?

The best output depends on transparency, compatibility, image type and the systems that must open it.

JPG / JPEGPhotographs and broad compatibility

JPG is lossy and does not preserve transparency. Novaverb places transparent pixels on white before JPEG encoding, preventing unexpected black backgrounds.

PNGTransparency and lossless graphics

PNG is appropriate for logos, interface captures and graphics that need alpha transparency or exact pixel preservation. Its quality control is disabled because Canvas PNG output is lossless.

WebPModern web photos and graphics

WebP supports lossy and lossless coding plus transparency. This tool offers it only after the browser returns a real image/webp Blob.

AVIFAdvanced compression when encoding exists

A browser may display AVIF without being able to create it. The AVIF button stays hidden unless a real Canvas encoding probe returns image/avif rather than a PNG fallback.

GIF / animated inputStatic first-frame conversion

Canvas conversion produces a still image. Animated GIF, WebP or AVIF input is flattened to the decoded frame; this tool does not preserve animation or timing.

HEIC / TIFF / ICO / BMPBrowser-dependent input

These can be selected, but conversion succeeds only if the current browser can decode the file. Unsupported files receive an explicit error instead of a mislabeled output.

What conversion changes - and what it cannot promise

A new extension is not the only consequence of decoding and re-encoding pixels.

What the converter verifies

  • The returned WebP or AVIF Blob has the exact selected MIME type.
  • Output dimensions respect the optional maximum width without upscaling.
  • JPEG transparency is intentionally flattened onto white.
  • The work is performed in the page using browser image and Canvas APIs.

Important limitations

Re-encoding normally removes camera EXIF, GPS and other source metadata. Color-profile handling and compression output are browser-dependent. Animation is not preserved. A successful conversion does not prove that every CMS, email client or legacy application accepts the chosen format, so test the downloaded file in its destination.

Output is verified instead of inferred from the extension

The HTML Canvas standard allows an unsupported requested type to fall back to PNG. Novaverb probes encoding and checks the returned Blob MIME type before showing WebP or AVIF, preventing a PNG file from being incorrectly named .webp or .avif.

Common questions

Image Converter FAQ

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Selection, decoding, Canvas rendering and encoding occur in your browser. Novaverb does not receive the selected image bytes. Avoid closing or reloading the tab until you have downloaded the results.

Which output format should I choose?

Choose JPG for photographs and broad compatibility, PNG for lossless graphics or transparency, and WebP for modern web delivery. Choose AVIF only when the button appears and the destination supports it.

Why is WebP or AVIF not available?

The page performs a real Canvas toBlob probe. If the browser cannot return the exact requested MIME type, the button remains hidden. This avoids downloading a PNG whose filename incorrectly ends in .webp or .avif.

Will conversion preserve transparency?

PNG and supported WebP or AVIF output can preserve alpha transparency. JPG has no alpha channel, so the converter deliberately fills transparent pixels with white.

Will animated GIF or WebP remain animated?

No. Canvas conversion creates a static output from the decoded image frame. Animation frames, timing and looping metadata are not preserved.

Does conversion remove EXIF and GPS metadata?

Normally yes. The image is decoded to pixels and re-encoded through Canvas, so EXIF, GPS and most source metadata are not copied. Keep the original whenever metadata matters.

Why can't the tool open a HEIC, TIFF or ICO file?

Selection does not guarantee decoding. Those formats depend on the browser and operating system. The file receives an error when the browser cannot decode it; Novaverb does not substitute a guessed result.

What are the batch limits?

A batch supports up to 20 images, 50 MB per file and 250 MB total. These safeguards reduce the risk of exhausting browser memory; very large pixel dimensions can still exceed device or Canvas limits.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. This generator runs fully client-side in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server, so it is safe to use on private content.

Is it really free?

Yes, with no account. A Novaverb workspace is only needed when you want to verify, monitor, and track these files on your live site over time.
